Welcome Summer! Must have accessories for the season....updated
Last year I shared a few of my favourite Summer accessories......here's a repost with a few new additions, in case you missed it the first time around :)
Now, if only our weather would start to cooperate so I could really get in the summer spirit....there's only so many days of RDF {that's rain, drizzle and fog for those who aren't familiar with the term ;)} a person can take...lol! Hope it's nicer where you are!

Nothing says summer more than a glass hurricane or vase filled with seaside memorabilia- some sand, seashells, rocks, wood, combined with a candle, bring the beach to your home....couldn't be simpler!
A simple seagrass tray adds texture, function and interest to just about any space in your home. What a wonderful way to welcome company in a guest room!
A wonderful glass pitcher is such a versatile summer piece....it can go from holding fresh flowers to holding some refreshing lemonade on a hot day....
Lanterns, like this one from Pottery Barn, work well indoors or out! What a great way to cast a warm summer glow on any space....
Summer casual accessories such as Straw Hats and Bags add a light and airy feel to an entry way....
Beautiful outdoor lights like these string ones from Pottery Barn are a must. They will adds lots of twinkle to your summer entertaining...

Coastal Kitchen and Family Room Updates :)
Recently, we've been making a few updates to the most used space in our home. I just wanted to give you a peek at the changes.....can you guess what they are? Come on in and I'll show you what we've been up to ;)
This is the view of our dining room/kitchen area....the biggest change here is one I've been waiting for a while.....new stainless steel appliances...yay! I just love the sparkle and shine they add to the space :

| I found these morrocan nautical inspired, printed pillows at Burlington Coat Factory while on vacation. At $6 each, I just HAD to fit them in my suitcase....much to my hubby's chagrin....LOL! I also decided to change out the curtains, which is one of my favourite ways to affordably update a space. We also changed out our old bamboo roll up blinds with these white wooden blinds. The white really brightens up the space and also adds so much more light control/privacy. |
A few pops of blue give a summer feel to the space.....

I found this gorgeous fabric to correspond with my Moroccan pillow and framed it in my existing frames for a burst of blue....
Some new smaller scaled bar stools and nautical striped chair pillows work well at the breakfast bar....
A starfish dish holds the liquid soap and dishcloth....pretty and functional!
A chicken wire basket is a great place to corral kitchen necessities like spices and oil....
A new rug, found at Ross stores, makes doing
the dishes a little more comfy!
And to finish off the tour, here's the view from the dining area into the family room.....we just love this room...hope you've enjoyed it too :)

As the kids often like to work on homework on the breakfast bar, I decided to use these jars to hold all the study necessities....

Paper Lanterns- girls room update.....
Anyone who knows me, knows that I am always on the lookout for simple, inexpensive ways to give quick updates to the rooms in my own home. I just love to keep things fresh and interesting! Of course, I do believe that these updates should not break the bank :)
My latest budget inspiration came while I was out and about last week. I came across a whole selection of Martha Stewart crafts on clearance for $5 each. These items are really promoted as wedding decor, but I couldn't help but think how cute they would look in my daughters room ;)
Here's how they turned out....

The set of 3 paper lanterns (2 med ,1 large) was a steal at $5. I just adore the eyelet detail.... I hung them from the ceiling with a silver ball thumbtack and a little fishing line. To add more drama I also purchase this glitter paper garland (also $5) and cut it into strips, which I attached to the wall with simple invisible tape.....what an easy way to bring some drama to the bed!
I couldn't resist this gorgeous bedside lamp with a bow from Homsense! When we turned it on we got a delightful surprise...the inside is lined in a Parisian themed material which shows through when it's lit :)
These battery operated pre-lit lanterns draped around my daughters mirror (also on sale for $5) add a soft glow and make her feel like a movie-star....I'd say that's money well spent ;)

Decorating with.....Tape!
| A couple of days ago I came across this great lettered/numbered packing tape at Michaels. I wasn't sure what exactly I was going to use it for, but at .90/roll, it just had to come home with me :) I wasn't home for long before I came up with a few super easy, fun, and fast uses for the tape.....Here's what I've done so far and I have lots of tape to spare!  |

| It doesn't get any simpler than this!... The black tape works perfectly on clear glass candle holders. The numbers are actually transparent which allows for a lovely glow when lit with a tealight candle.... |
The white tape , monogrammed with my son's initial, wrapped around a basic drum lampshade adds a wonderfully interesting effect.....

Another use in my sons bedroom is on the edge of his roller shade. It does double duty by embellishing the plain shade and at the same time repairing a small tear .....can't ask for more than that! :) I am definitely going to keep my eyes open for more colors/prints of tape......love the versatility!
